I have suffered the second failure of my steering gear. There is a small hole where the steering column attaches to the steering gear that is intended to drain water from the coulmn. If this hole gets plugged, rain water will collect in the column and work past the seal in the steering gear. the steering gear oil will then float on the water and the lower bearing will be destroyed. Has anyone else had this problem and more importantly, has anyone tried filling the gearbox with grease instead of gearoil to prevent this damage. (I know keeping the hole cleaned out will work, but by the time you notice the gearoil leak, the damage is done). secondly, does anyone have a source for used or rebuilt gearbox for this tractor?
